#GTO2Vote

11.04.20

In an effort to encourage voter registration and education during the 2020 election season, GTOers Xavier Harrison and Matthew Littleton spearheaded our GTO2Vote campaign, partnering with community groups and voter registration and education organizations on a local and national level, and implemented a national paid search voter registration campaign targeting voters in battleground states. We used our own social platforms to spread the word and closed our US offices to ensure that all employees were able to dedicate their time to casting their ballot or volunteering at the polls.

We are proud to support our team members who use their voices and show up to support causes that matter to them. To amplify their efforts and shine light on what drives their passion, we asked Xavier and Matthew to tell us why getting involved this election season was so important to them.

“Growing up in Harlem as a young boy I always wanted a better life, both for myself and my loved ones. As I got older, I began to realize that I had the power to create real change, both within my community and within this country. There are many within the Black community who believe their voice doesn’t matter. This is by all accounts untrue. My personal philosophy includes “the 3 E’s”: Educate, Encourage & Empower! I want to educate on how the polls work, encourage everyone to use their power to get out and vote, and empower everyone to claim their rights and use their influence to affect what goes on in our communities and this country. We all have a role to play!” – Xavier Harrison, Associate Search Director

“During the 2016 election I was still a student at Colgate University, and I was amazed at how many students did not vote. It was not until the spring of 2017, when I took my first Political Science course on campus, that I learned that this was a problem that extended far beyond my small social bubble. Young voters have had the worst turnout at the polls, out of every age group, at every presidential election for at least the last 40 years. I knew that I had to do what I could this election to encourage as many young voters to vote as I could; America’s youth deserve to have their voice heard as well. I am so grateful that GTO shares that opinion and was able to put action behind it with the #GTO2Vote campaign!” – Matthew Littleton, Associate Project Manager
